Release of Birds in Borjomi-Kharagauli: Restoration Programme and Protected Area Rules
Restoring bird populations in a protected area is a matter of scientific management. The agency's activity does not grant visitors permission for hunting or arbitrary relocation.

According to Imedi's report of 9 October 2026, 100 Chukar partridges and 100 Grey partridges were released in the Borjomi-Kharagauli Protected Areas. The information describes an event by the Agency of Protected Areas and cooperation with the Agency of Wildlife. This report does not establish the Red List status of each species nor the final outcome of the population restoration.
Are restoration and arbitrary intervention the same?
Article 5 of the Law on the System of Protected Areas defines the grounds for the protection of national parks and corresponding zoning. Article 20 links activities to the territory's category, individual regulations, and management plan. A restoration measure planned by the Agency does not imply permission for any person to introduce, capture, or remove birds.
For evaluation, the species' suitability to the local environment, the purpose of release, health control, and subsequent monitoring are important. These are matters to be checked and are not presented as violations of a specific programme in this article. The number of birds released cannot be the sole measure of long-term ecological success.
What does international obligation entail?
Georgia is a Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Article 8 of the Convention concerns the protection and restoration of ecosystems and viable populations in their natural surroundings, taking into account feasibility and appropriateness. This is a binding framework for the state; it does not grant individual hunting rights to visitors.
What can be checked before a visit?
Visitors should check the rules for specific routes and zones with the administration. Additional requirements for research or photography may exist depending on the activity. Public evaluation of the programme would benefit from reviewing the management plan and monitoring results. The available information describes the restoration measure; a final conclusion on its effectiveness and compliance with all procedural requirements needs additional documentation.
