New Air Monitoring Station in Gori: Access to Data and the Right to Environmental Protection
Expanding air quality monitoring provides citizens with access to measurements. How to read the data and when is additional evidence required?

According to Imedi's report of 10 October 2026, an automatic air quality monitoring station has been launched in Gori. The information released by the National Environmental Agency describes the expansion of the network with the support of international partners. To view the measurements, the official atmospheric air quality portal is available.
Are monitoring data public?
Article 6 of the Law on the Protection of Atmospheric Air protects the right to receive full and objective information. Article 20 defines monitoring as a system of observation, analysis, and forecasting, while Article 51 provides for the openness of results to the public and the publication of reports.
Article 29 of the Constitution of Georgia links a healthy environment to the right to receive information on the state of the environment. Article 4 of the Aarhus Convention, which is binding for Georgia, establishes guarantees for requesting environmental information. Access to data is not limited to specialists or nearby residents.
What does a single station's measurement prove?
Evaluating the result requires checking the substance, measurement location, averaging period, and data validation. A single high indicator cannot automatically establish a violation by a specific enterprise or the cause of a specific person's illness. For individual responsibility, additional research on emissions, wind, source, and health damage may be necessary.
How can information be requested?
Under Article 37 of the General Administrative Code, it is possible to request data, methodology, and relevant reports from the agency in writing or electronically. Specifying the particular station and period in the request will make the response clearer. Receiving information and appealing a possible violation are different stages; the opening of a new station does not guarantee air safety everywhere.
