UK visas in Cuba: settlement document scanning update
The October 23 update replaces postal settlement-document submission with embassy scanning. Applicants should confirm appointment instructions where the checklist is unclear.

The announced change concerns document delivery
The change history for the UK’s Cuba visa guidance, dated 23 October 2026, says settlement documents no longer need to be submitted by post and are now scanned at the Embassy. This concerns how evidence reaches the visa process, rather than a new settlement eligibility rule. Official source.
The process continues to involve an online application and attendance at the visa application centre at the British Embassy in Havana. Scanning documents does not itself establish that an application is complete or will be approved.
Resolve the checklist ambiguity
The detailed Havana guidance still includes an “unless you’re a settlement applicant” qualification in its supporting-document checklist. That wording should be checked against the new scanning announcement.
A settlement applicant should confirm the actual evidence and scanning instructions through the official appointment channel before attending. It would be unsafe to infer from the general checklist alone either that all originals must be brought or that supporting documents can be omitted.
Keep a reliable document record
Prepare an index linking each document to the issue it supports, and retain legible copies and any submission confirmation. Where a document is translated, keep the original and translation connected so that names, dates and page sequences remain traceable.
Hypothetically, an applicant has already arranged to post a settlement file using older instructions. The practical response is to confirm the current submission route and custody arrangements before sending it, rather than dispatching a second untracked set.
Evidence delivery is separate from the decision
The guidance also describes eVisas, following the earlier July 2026 transition. That is background to the application journey; it is not the new change announced on October 23.
Before travel, check the actual permission and the relevant account details. A scanning appointment, the return of a passport or an electronic notification must not be confused with a favourable immigration decision. Individual deadlines and document requests still need attention.
Legal check date
Sources and law checked on 28 October 2026. Later developments are not reflected automatically. Application of the rules depends on the individual facts.
