New Zealand publishes parent visa selection estimates

New Zealand has published estimated parent-visa selection dates. Queue and ballot shares describe methods, not an individual chance of selection.

What has changed?

On 30 October 2026 Immigration New Zealand said that people with a Parent Resident Visa expression of interest had been told their queue entry and estimated selection dates. The agency has also published estimated queue selection dates. The figures help families plan, but they are estimates rather than promises of selection or a residence visa.

Under the hybrid selection process, the agency expects approximately 90% of selected expressions of interest to come from the queue and around 10% from regular ballot draws. Those proportions describe the selection methods, not the likelihood that any particular expression of interest will be selected. An expression of interest can be selected in a ballot before its estimated queue date. Immigration New Zealand says it will update the estimates after each quarterly selection round; positions can change as selections and applications progress.

What does selection mean?

An expression of interest is the first step, not a residence application or approval. If it is selected and the person receives an invitation to apply, the agency says the residence application must be submitted within four months. Selection does not remove the requirements for the parent or sponsor, and a visa is not guaranteed. Applicants should read the invitation and current official instructions for their own case.

What should families do now?

Review the information sent by Immigration New Zealand, keep contact details and the expression of interest current, and recheck the published estimate after each quarterly round. The agency says there is no need to prepare the application before an invitation, although families may find it useful to familiarise themselves with the relevant requirements and supporting documents. If an invitation arrives, take note of the four-month filing period and check what is required rather than assuming selection is the final decision.

These are New Zealand immigration rules, not Georgian residence rules. A person needing advice about a New Zealand application should seek an appropriately authorised New Zealand immigration professional.
