French visa appointments in the UK: automatic allocation, payment deadlines and the danger of appointment sellers

October reporting revisits automatic allocation introduced earlier at UK centres. The Edinburgh notice specifies a 12-hour payment window and a 60-day unallocated-registration limit.

The report is new; the appointment change began earlier

Reporting published on 13 October and updated on 14 October 2026 describes automatic appointment allocation for French short-stay visa applications at UK TLScontact centres. The relevant changes were introduced earlier, including Edinburgh from 11 September. This is an application-booking development, not a new French immigration category or a general October change in visa eligibility.

The official TLScontact Edinburgh notice, published on 8 September, is the precise source for that centre’s conditions. It describes validated registration, automatic allocation by availability, an email notification and a 12-hour period to pay after allocation. Unallocated registrations are removed after 60 days, after which the applicant must register again. Those specific deadlines should not be assumed for every centre or visa category.

An appointment is access to the procedure, not approval

The legal decision on the visa remains distinct from the appointment service. An allocated slot does not establish that the documents are sufficient or that the applicant meets the conditions. Conversely, failure to obtain a slot is not the same as a reasoned visa refusal. The appropriate response depends on whether the problem is booking access, an incomplete application or an adverse consular decision.

A short payment window makes accurate contact details and access to email important. Applicants should retain the allocation message, payment confirmation and any technical-error evidence. If the official system fails, a dated record can support a complaint. An unofficial seller’s claim that a slot is transferable or guarantees approval should be checked against the provider’s personal, non-transferable allocation rules.

Why moving to Georgia is not an automatic workaround

Article 6 of the EU Visa Code generally assigns examination to the competent consulate in the jurisdiction where the applicant legally resides. It also addresses applications from a person legally present but not resident where justification is supplied. This is not an unrestricted right to choose any country with a shorter appointment queue.

A person living in the UK who visits Tbilisi solely to obtain a faster appointment must therefore check whether the relevant consulate will accept the application there. A Georgian entry stamp or hotel booking does not by itself establish consular competence. A genuine change of residence may alter the analysis, but it needs supporting facts and the correct application route.

Protect the application from fraud and inconsistent records

Appointment intermediaries can create a second problem if they control the account, enter inaccurate personal details or withhold correspondence. The applicant remains exposed to the consequences of the information submitted. Keep control of the official account and review every form before submission. Paying an intermediary does not turn a provider’s appointment rules into a private entitlement to a preferred date.

Applicants should also distinguish official service fees from an intermediary’s own charges and preserve receipts. A complaint about a reseller’s conduct is different from challenging a consular refusal. Evidence of the contract, payment and representations is important if money was taken for a promised service that could not lawfully or practically be delivered.

Planning the journey and the application

The France-Visas UK page remains a starting point for the applicable official process. The visa category, centre notice and current appointment instructions should be read together. If Georgia forms part of the itinerary, its entry and residence rules must be checked separately; a French appointment confirmation supplies no Georgian immigration permission.

  • Select the correct visa category and centre before registering.
  • Keep access to email and be ready for the centre’s stated payment window.
  • Preserve official allocation and payment records.
  • Check consular jurisdiction before travelling to another country to apply.
  • Reject promises that an appointment purchase guarantees a visa outcome.

The automatic system may change how a person reaches the application desk. It does not replace the visa’s substantive requirements or the legal rules determining which consulate can examine the case.
