Canada and Frontex sign new border cooperation arrangement
The Canadian border agency and Frontex announced closer cooperation. The announcement does not itself change individual visa requirements.

What the official source reports
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, signed a new operational cooperation arrangement on 30 October 2026, according to CBSA. The announcement describes deeper cooperation and information exchange on cross-border issues including migration, smuggling, trafficking and document and identity fraud. It does not announce a new Canadian visa requirement or an automatic change in eligibility to enter Europe or Canada.
How the rules or arrangements work
CBSA says the arrangement offers opportunities to exchange information and analysis through EUROSUR, support joint training and professional exchanges, and cooperate on research, technology and border-management tools. The agencies have worked together under an earlier arrangement since 2010. The new document's precise terms and the scope of any data sharing cannot be established from the announcement alone; CBSA refers to privacy and data-protection safeguards without specifying all of their operation.
Legal context and limits
Article 73 of EU Regulation 2019/1896 provides the general framework under which Frontex may cooperate with competent authorities in non-EU countries, subject to EU law and fundamental-rights and personal-data protections. That general framework does not disclose the precise terms of this particular arrangement or establish what information has been exchanged in a specific case.
Practical next steps
For a traveller or applicant, the practical distinction is between cooperation between authorities and the individual rules governing a particular journey. Continue to check current passport, visa or electronic-authorization requirements with the competent authority for the destination and itinerary. If a border decision affects an application or travel, retain the notice and obtain advice on the applicable procedure and deadlines. Cooperation does not by itself establish that an individual's records were shared or that a decision was made. Request a consultation.
